Spicy Garlic Chili Shrimp Recipe

Servings: 2-4 | Prep Time: 10 minutes | Cook Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) large shrimp or prawns, peeled and deveined
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1-2 red chilies, finely chopped (adjust for heat level)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh lemon wedges, for serving
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel to remove any moisture. Season with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using), and mix until the shrimp are evenly coated.

  2. Heat the Pan: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil and butter. Let the butter melt and start to bubble slightly.

  3. Cook the Garlic and Chili: Add the minced garlic and chopped red chilies to the pan. Sauté for 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant and lightly golden (don’t let it burn).

  4. Cook the Shrimp: Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Let them cook undisturbed for about 1-2 minutes, until they start turning pink and get a nice sear.

  5. Flip and Finish: Flip the shrimp and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until they’re opaque and cooked through. Shrimp cook quickly, so avoid overcooking to keep them juicy.

  6. Serve: Transfer the shrimp to a serving plate, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top, and garnish with chopped cilantro or parsley.

  7. Enjoy! Serve hot with extra lemon wedges on the side. Pair with crusty bread, over rice, or on a salad for a complete meal.

Tip: For a smoky island twist, try cooking these over a grill or in a cast-iron skillet. The charred bits will add an extra layer of flavor!
